Events in New Orleans

Situated in a unique melting pot of cultures with mild weather year-round, Southeast Louisiana residents enjoy access to hundreds of events in New Orleans and its surrounding areas that take place throughout the year.

Fun runs, 5Ks, triathlons and cycling races are the norm for weekends in the New Orleans area, providing casual racers and serious athletes with access to competitions nearly all year. In addition, because of the region’s location, outdoors enthusiasts are never far away from competitive water-based events and fun activities, which can range from bass fishing rodeos on the Pearl River to sailboat racing on Lake Pontchartrain.

The region is also a hub for visual arts and music. Large-scale music festivals and unique dining experiences often serve as the cornerstone of residents’ weekends throughout the year. Casual outdoor concerts are commonplace — one of the world’s largest music festivals, the two-weekend New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell, takes place each spring at the historic New Orleans Fair Grounds. Fine arts events are also a regular occurrence across the area, with juried art exhibitions, arts festivals and arts markets.

Many events in New Orleans are situated around the Southeast region’s well-known culinary scene. From wine tastings accompanied by live music at Pontchartrain Vineyards, to the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience, which draws acclaimed international chefs, the region celebrates farm-to-table, traditional and experimental cuisine. In addition, food aficionados enjoy 12 months of weekly farmers markets in New Orleans and across the Northshore, as well as a range of outdoor food festivals centered around the region’s emblematic dishes.
