BACK TO Public Schools

Tchefuncte Middle School is a 4th-through-6th-grade public school in Mandeville with an A rating from the Louisiana Department of Education for 2014-15. Students participate in a number of unique activities, such as building tiny medieval castles from recycled and edible materials to exploring the laws of ancient Babylon. The parent-teacher organization received a National PTA award in 2014 for parent involvement in “Take Your Family to School Week” activities. Arts, science and community-service opportunities are among the standout programs Tchefuncte offers.

Arts-related components are integrated into a comprehensive curriculum, and academics benefit from the school’s focus on science and technology. In spring 2014, gifted math students won a first-place regional award in the multi-state Continental Mathematics League competition.

In addition, students at Tchefuncte Middle School participate in a variety of community service activities. The Tchefuncte Student Government Association collected more than 200 stuffed animals for children at local hospitals and crisis centers. Students also took part in the “Geaux Pink” fundraiser benefiting breast cancer patients at the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.
