Public schools in New Orleans include some of the top-performing schools in the state. In 2014, public schools in the region produced 14 National Merit Scholar finalists, a 5th-grade state finalist in Google’s “Doodle 4 Google” international art contest, and a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Six kindergarten-through-12th-grade schools are recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education, and high school athletic teams have won numerous state titles.

Students attending public schools in New Orleans have the opportunity to take educational field trips, learn about the performing arts and participate in broadcast journalism programs. In 2014, the Center for Digital Education rated St. Charles Parish among the top 10 districts in the U.S. for the use of educational technology. Also in 2014, U.S. News & World Report placed St. Charles Parish among the top three districts in the state for preparing students for college.
