New Orleans Offers Haven for Boating Enthusiasts

View All Parks & Rec

New Orleans offers a variety of options for boating enthusiasts. Whether you’re new to the scene or an experienced veteran, New Orleans’ clubs and harbors give plenty of opportunity and space for this interesting hobby.

The New Orleans Yacht Club (NOYC), located on Lake Pontchartrain, provides regional sailors and boaters the chance to interact with other yachting enthusiasts and engage in competitive sailing. The organization includes a marina, restaurant and bar, 200 person ballroom, workout facility and game room. Each spring NOYC hosts Mardi Gras Race Week, which consists of several days of competitive yachting on Lake Pontchartrain. Sailors from around the country participate.

Also on Lake Pontchartrain are Orleans Marina and South Shore Harbor. Orleans Marina, situated just east of the Causeway Bridge, offers an ideal location for a day at the lake. Within walking distance of the Marina are restaurants, grocery stores and other shops to visit after docking your boat in one of their many slips. South Shore Harbor, conveniently located next to the New Orleans Lakefront Airport, offers plenty of space for boat owners to dock with 453 open slips and 26 covered slips. Both Orleans Marina and South Shore Harbor offer slips for rent or long-term lease.
