Louisiana Children's Discovery Center
Families can interact and play in a fun environment at the Louisiana Children's Discovery Center in Hammond. The facility includes several themed play spaces for children to explore. Each area caters to different motor or critical thinking skill sets and creates different environments. Aerobic Alley has a musical dance floor that reacts to a child’s dance moves with light and sound. Middendorf’s is a play restaurant where children can pretend to work the cash register and operate a scanner to ring up items.
Babies and toddlers can explore the Tactile Tunnel, a multi-sensory play garden where children crawl over roots and through a silo. Children explore professions in the Vet Clinic and the Waterfront. In the clinic, they wear scrubs and play veterinarian to stuffed animals. In the Waterfront they explore a child-sized pier and shrimp boat where visitors can pretend to haul in the day’s catch.
The facility hosts family-friendly events, as well as winter camps. In addition to field trips and Toddler Time, a weekly, hour-long socialization and learning experience, the Center is also home to the Bayou Builders LEGO League, where kids work with LEGO Mindstorm Technology.
